This school is the best thing I have ever done. I always wanted to be a Heavy Equipment Operator ever since my dad took me on a front-end-loader and climbed a stock pile. I knew then that was what I wanted to do. No one would hire me because I was not certified. Now that I have a family and two kids I knew it was time to do something different. I was a welder going from job to job because I would get laid off for lack of work. I got tired of it so I came to this school to make me and my family lives better. So that I wouldn't have to change jobs every 3 - 6 months.

Before coming to this class I did not know that much about heavy equipment. After coming here I learned naot only the machinery but a lot about ground work. The staff here is really good and knowledgeable about all the subjects. I would highly recommend coming to this class if you are interested in machinery. I enjoyed the time here and the people are friendly.

Attending the NAHETS location in Oklahoma City, OK did one important thing for me, It opened my eyes to new possibilities and opportunities that I would have never known about in the construction industry. The open door policy, computers and phone availibility, and knowlegdeable instructors made my three week stay move fast and stay interesting. The fact that the student body could submit surveys to voice their opinion was a definite plus. My only regret is that I could not stay longer. I would encourage anyone considering this school to do your research and try and do all 3 levels!

About a week and a half before graduation it was time to search for a job. There were several contacts made and resumes sent out. I received a phone call from a company who was interested in my ability to operate an excavator. They told me what they offer and I told them what I needed. We then negotiated what seemed to be fair and I went ahead and took the job. I've been around heavy equipment most of my life but by going to OCC [Now Red Rock College] they showed me a whole lot more. It's not about the experience anymore, it's about the knowledge of grades and being able to check your own if need be. By doing this at OCC the company asked if I could run 3% or 5% grade on a methaine gas line ditch. With the training I received at OCC I knew that was not a problem. With recent experience and what I learned here at OCC I knew I was comfortable to negotiate their pay and per diem. They offered me $16 per hour an $35 per day per diem. I then asked for $16 per hour and $900 per month per diem. They called me back two days later and told me they got me close to what I wanted, $16 per hour and $840 a month per diem with a pay increase of one dollar per hour after 90 days. I took the job. Graduation was Friday and I start to work on Monday. Thanks OCC!
