Testimonial From a Graduate

Red Rock College (formerly Oklahoma College of Construction), good idea to go or not? That is exactly what was running through my head prior to attending the school. I was full of doubt and confusion and called the school at least a dozen times before attending to try and ease my mind. I was having trouble deciding on which program to attend, crane or heavy equipment. A representative of the school, Scotty Gecks, talked to me several different times to try and figure out what would be best for me and my family. He was very helpful in my decision making and I decided to go with the crane program.

Upon arrival for my first day of class, I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I didn't know what to expect or what to do because I had no experience in the construction world and was beside myself. As I entered the school, everything went smoothly, everyone was friendly and courteous and made me feel right at home. The class itself was great. Jon Rodgers, the crane instructor, is very knowledgeable and has a lot to offer the students to prepare them for the world. He made it fun to learn and that is one of the reasons it made it easier for me to learn and feel more comfortable inside and out in the field. Job placement assistance, Sharla is amazing, not even 3 weeks out of school yet and Sharla has helped with finding an employer for me to go work for. Starting pay was $25.25 an hour, not bad for a greenhorn huh.

I would recommend this school to anyone serious about either accelerating their career or launching a new career. Thanks Red Rock College for everything.

I graduated from OCC [Now Red Rock College] and was able to start work the following Tuesday as an equipment operator making a good double digit hourly rate. I work for a large company that maintains and renovates water treatment plants. I operate everything where I work. Right now I am on a loader. I am only a level 1 graduate. The field work I did at the school helped me to get into the equipment I have had the chance to get in. When the boss asks if I can run a piece of equipment I just tell him no problem. The only reason I can do that is because of the instruction I received and the help from the instructors.

I came to OCC [Now Red Rock College] for all three levels of dirt and the crane class. It was one of the best life betterment decisions I have made. A week before I graduated I already had a job making three times the money i have ever made and a real feel for "the sky's the limit" philosophy. I honestly see nothing but dollar bills in my future. I would totally recommend this school to anyone ever considering this career choice.

I appreciate all the help finding a job soon after I graduated. Since that time I have been running a crane for a company that the school put me in contact with. I have received multiple raises since I have been there. This company is very impressed with the knowledge that I received from OCC [Now Red Rock College]. After being promoted, it encouraged me to further my training to multiple cranes. Now, not only am I certified in large hydraulic but I am also certified in small hydraulic and lattice boom crawler, which is what I am currently running. I am proud to say that I wouldn't and couldn't have done it without the knowledge and support from the school. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing future students from OCC [Now Red Rock College] in the field.

Upon graduation I received many job leads but the one that stood out was a company that had called the school looking for a crane operator. They were looking for someone with experience but were willing to work with someone who had crane operator knowledge and limited seat time. I graduated on Friday, interviewed for the job on Monday morning, and was offered the job Monday afternoon. They were looking for someone to become their lead crane operator and later on to supervise their entire crane operation (they were impressed with my CCO certifications). Their offer was $20/hr and $32/day per diem with a large raise after 90 days if my skills progress as we all expect that they will. My daughter attended 5 years of college to become an intensive care nurse and is making around $19/hr at a children's hospital. Considering the time and money I invested in Oklahoma College of Construction [Now Red Rock College] and landing a $20/hr job within 48 hours of graduation, I think it was a great investment and I want to thank everyone at the school. Thank you!

Prior to attending OCC [Now Red Rock College] I was a prison guard in Texas and going nowhere. Becoming a certified heavy equipment operator has opened many doors for me. I currently run heavy equipment at a Shell refinery in Deer Park, Texas making $22.75/hr. I have recommended OCC [Now Red Rock College] to many people. I can now support my family and it feels great. I would like to thank all of the instructors who helped me succeed.

I came to OCC [Now Red Rock College] already having a couple years prior experience running heavy equipment but found it difficult getting a job without having some sort of certification. Initially, I thought all I was going to get was a piece of paper saying I could run the machines but instead, I was able to learn a whole lot more thanks to the experience and help from all of the instructors. After going through 2 levels of dirt and then moving on to the mobile crane program I had a job offer with 1 week of training to go. The job offer was to run a 325c excavator and a backhoe. Just knowing that I am able to check my own grade seemed like a major bonus to the superintendant. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn from people who have lots of real-world experience and get the chance to run heavy equipment in a real-world setting
